"Ana + Martin Ma are the husband + wife duo behind Design Domain..., a Houston based full service design and construction company that was born out of the pandemic:⁠

'I started my career as a designer for a local cabinet dealer specializing in kitchen and bathroom renovations and worked for this company for over three years until the pandemic hit. With my degree in interior design, I was able to use what I had learned and grow as a designer during my time with this company. Right before the lockdown, I found out I was pregnant with my third child. I took quarantine protocols very seriously since I was now considered “high risk,” so that gave me a lot of time to figure things out. With the uncertainty of returning to my previous position, I took the opportunity to take what was a side gig into a full-time job. I love what I do because I get to manage every aspect of the business including my schedule. ⁠

Design Domain really started as a flipping business. The pandemic affected our plans for the company and halted everything we had going. Instead of it turning for the worst, it just turned us in a different direction. We are now a full-service design and construction company. Although we work in all spaces, our niche is in kitchen and bathroom design. We like to stay up to date with new products, technology, and trends by attending continuing education courses and workshops and networking with our peers.⁠

We want to be known for being innovative and helpful in the community by providing great design based on the needs of each client, going beyond aesthetics. In good design, the most important thing to accomplish is a safe space with consideration of ergonomics and functionality, and that’s what we’re here for.'"
